Perfect Peonies

Peonies are one of the most popular spring flowers, especially for weddings. I haven’t met a bride who doesn’t love this romantic bloom. They make the perfect focal point for any arrangement whether it be used in a bouquet or a centerpiece.

I especially love peonies clustered together in monochromatic colors. You can use pink peonies to make a modern statement or use white peonies to set the tone for an elegant affair.

Lily of the Valley

When I think of spring, one of the first flowers that comes mind are lily of the valley. They are beautiful wildflowers that bloom in the spring. They have a delicate bell shape and are extremely fragrant.

Lily of the valley makes a perfect addition to any spring bridal bouquet. They are just as stunning all on their own. Kate Middleton and Grace Kelly even had lily of the valley bouquets!

Real Weddings: Megan and Paul

Megan and Paul had a beautiful winter wedding on December 17, 2011.  Their ceremony was at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lake Orion, followed by lots of partying at the Lafayette Grande in Pontiac.  Check out the fun trailer from 5th and Main Productions!

Real Weddings: Allyson & Marc

Fun, fun, fun!!!  Allyson and Marc were so amazing to work with…  laid back, casual and super cool are a few words we’d use to describe this duo.  Planning a Michigan wedding from out of state, they knew they were going to need some help.  We not only provided hands-on planning assistance throughout their engagement, we also provided all of the decor and floral.

With a guest list of only 24, we were able to use a family members backyard for this intimate and casual event.  Seating all the guests at one long (beautiful!) family style table helped everyone feel like they were at a family dinner party, rather than a more traditional wedding.  We used a mixture of silver mercury glass, rustic wood planter boxes, succulents, candles, tons of floral and heirloom family china to create the dining table.

Allyson’s bouquet was designed with burgundy dahlias, purple ranunculus, variegated greens, scabosia pods and succulents, giving it a summery and very textural look. The mens boutonnieres are created with mini succulents, scabosia pods and seeded eucalyptus.  The flower girls mini birch ball (accented with a burgundy dahlia) was one of my favorite pieces of the day!

Calynn Berry was on hand to photograph the event…  and as you can see from the above photos, she captured every essence of the day!

Real Weddings: Vanisha & Rajan

Can we say GORGEOUS??  Not only are the bride and groom beautiful, the room decor was over the top!  Le Reve Creations , out of Virginia, drove in with truck loads of goodies to help transform the ballroom of the Marriott Renaissance Center into a spectacular event.

We provided our Signature Flourish Coordination services throughout the weekend helping with everything from guest experience, set-up, logistics and timing (and of course, everything else that happened throughout the weekend!).  We had a blast working with all of the vendors, but especially Fauzeen and Ali from The Q Studio!  Not only did they provide all of the photography, they also had their video team on hand.  (We posted their same day edit film here).

400+ guests, 3 events + one crazy weekend = so much fun!!

Hiring 2012 summer interns

The official start of our 2012 wedding season is quickly approaching!  We are currently looking for 2 interns to work alongside our team for our summer internship program.

The summer internship will begin April 6th and run through July 21st.  This is an unpaid position, but will provide a unique blend of hands on experience and entrepreneurial opportunity.  Interns can expect to work an average of 6 hours each Friday and 10-12 hours on event days (Saturdays and/or Sundays).  Our hours are long, but we have a lot of fun!

Summer Intern Responsibilities

  • Scheduling appointments for venue tours and meetings with new vendors
  • Online research for current clients
  • Assistance with event design
  • Assistance with floral production
  • Assistance with daily tasks associated with running a small business
  • Attendance at monthly industry meetings
  • Wedding day and wedding rehearsal event management
  • Event set-up and clean-up

What we’re looking for:

  • Senior-level college students or recent graduates in related fields
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft word and excel
  • Experience with social media
  • Experience working in high stress environments
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and occasionally lift heavy objects
  • Team players who understand how to follow direction, make quick decisions, and take ownership in their work
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Energy, passion and perseverance

The ideal candidate will be a design or hospitality major (or recent graduate).  The ability to draw or sketch designs and experience with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop will be looked upon highly.  No previous wedding experience is needed.  We aren’t necessarily looking for someone who loves wedding; we are looking for someone eager to embrace event design and learn what it takes to run a successful small business.

If you are interested in applying, please send your cover letter and resume in pdf format to info@flourisheventdesign.com. Your cover letter should showcase why you are an ideal candidate and explain what your long-term career goals are.  No phone calls, please.

Please use ‘Summer Intern Application’ as the subject line of your email.  Resumes will be accepted until March 1, 2011.

Real Engagements: Jessica and Eric

I love it when brides use props for their engagement photos.  That balloon is super fun…  and those tights, those are even more fun!!  Jessica and Eric are getting married on May 11, 2012 at The Lafayette Grande in Pontiac.  We’re super pumped to be working with E’Lisa from E.C. Campbell Photography for the first time too!

Real Weddings: Nadine and Ryan

We had such a great time working with Kristen Taylor on this lovely Royal Park Hotel wedding.  With Nadine and Ryan (and many of their guests) being from out of state, they knew they needed some help pulling all of the final details together.  We provided our Signature Flourish Coordination for them and helped with all of the logistics of the day.

Nadine was super detail oriented so we knew their wedding was going to be fabulous.  The Lighting Guy, Special Events Rentals, and Bellasario created the perfect “wow” factor when guests walked into the ballroom with amazing lighting, draping, and floral. Guests enjoyed the talented musicians of Panache during cocktail hour, and both a band and DJ during the reception.  Bringing their two families together was great and we couldn’t have been more pleased to work with them!

Real Engagements: Megan and Paul

Megan and Paul’s wedding is in less than 2 months and we’re super excited to share their day with them.  They’ve planned their winter wedding at the historical Layfayette Grand in Pontiac for December 17th.  We can’t wait to see the wedding photos from Jess & Nate Studios!  (PS:  Paul is Kendall’s big brother… do you recognize Megan from her bridal party?)

Thanks for sharing Jess & Nate!
