Inspiration Photo Shoot: Michigan Winter Weddings

Back in February, I partnered with a group of amazing vendors to create a concept photo shoot.  The idea behind the shoot was to showcase a beautiful Michigan winter wedding.   A little snow and cold weather shouldn’t stop brides and grooms from planning winter events.  When combined with the right accessories, flowers, and rental items, Michigan winters really do have a lot to offer.

For this design, we used a primarily white and ivory color-palette and very subtlety accented with a soft blue.  Using various pieces of white china plus tulips, calla lilies, ranunculus, roses, and hyacinth, New Creations created a ‘soft romantic’ look for the centerpieces.  Pair that with a simple textured white table linen, blue charger plates, frosted white water glasses, and long taper candles, and you’ve got yourself a gorgeous winter white table.  Gina’s Bridal and Posh Hair & Make-up Studio brought in a few models to help us bring the table design to life!  The groom’s light grey suit and blue tie and the flower in the brides hair really helped keep the overall look light and airy.  The grooms boutonniere was made with individual hyacinth blooms strung together with silver wire and clear buttons; the bridal bouquet was a combination of the same hyacinth blooms strung on silver wire with white ranunculus and queen anne’s lace.  The bridesmaids dress helped pull out the accent color we used on the table.  Her bouquet was simply stunning with all white tulips.

Being that the goal was to showcase Michigan winters (keyword being Michigan), we decided to use River Birch Lodge as our backdrop.  River Birch Lodge is a quaint little venue in Hartland.  It’s reminiscent of being up-north surrounded by snow covered pines, rustic touches, and glowing fireplaces.  Although the lodge had everything we could have ever wanted inside, we decide to brave the freezing weather and head outside to capture a few images in the snow.  Yes, those beautiful ladies sat outside in dresses (with no coats!) while West Park Photography and 3rd Street Films did their magic.

The awesome silver tufted couches, mirrored tables, and furry white pillows were all rental items from Special Events Rental.

Back inside, I new everyone would need to warm up. In lieu of a traditional signature drink, we opted to serve spiked hot chocolate.  Molly, from Paisley Quill, helped us complete the entire look by creating custom drink menus and stir sticks.  Nothing screams up-north and Michigan better than a large deer head, right?  When used tastefully, this type of motif is perfect for Michigan events.

Molly also created a fun and fresh alternative to a traditional guest book.  Using a frame without the glass, guests would sign-in on the large board hanging near the front door.  For the favors, we used ivory chenille blankets wrapped with brown grosgrain ribbon and a tag that read “Keep Warm!”

See, Michigan winters don’t have to be dark and dreary.  With a great event designer and a little imagination, Michigan winter weddings can be as fun and fresh as any spring or summer event!
